The PDN Photo Annual is a visual journey through the year, of what are the Best Photos of the year — a glimpse of how the world looks and feels through the eyes of our industry's brightest photographers today. From the heartbreaking images of war and disaster to the whimsical and absurd moments in everyday life, the power of photography can be seen in all the images presented here. We are very grateful to our sponsors—Adobe, Canon, Epson, HP, Nikon, Olympus— whose continued generous support makes it possible to put the issue and this site together. These companies and Parsons School of Design have provided prizes, cash awards and scholarships for the recognition of storytelling, humanitarian efforts and creativity in photography. We are proud to recognize the iconic photographers of our times and the photo students who will tell the stories of tomorrow.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the judges, the photographers, designers, editors, agents and agencies who appear in the issue and make it their life work to champion photography. Congratulations to all our winners. —PDN
